The work undertaken by advocates and other organisations through the Grants Program is having influence, improving outcomes for energy consumers. Great Grants showcase important work that has built new evidence or demonstrated impact.
The Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS) Equitable, Affordable, Inclusive Energy Transition Project has been selected as one of our Great Grants.
This project is focused around the ACOSS people-centered vision for the Australian energy system, supporting national reform to address housing energy performance with an eye towards lower bills for low-income consumers. ACOSS has taken a particularly collaborative approach with this project, identifying opportunities to influence key energy policy areas by building and working with coalitions of advocates, and engages in a collaborative way with stakeholders.
The project has five key workstreams and has achieved significant impact in relation to distributed energy, the energy performance of housing and energy concessions. The project has also been notable for being responsive to changing conditions having focused more recently on:
- Recommendations COVID response for energy;
- Rule change proposals to improve to deliver more DER benefits to consumers.
