Consumer Energy Information Research

The Consumer Energy Information Research project (2023-24) was a year-long project by Energy Consumers Australia and the Insight Centre.

Key findings

Icon

Consumers need the right information, at the right time, from sources they trust

Icon

Consumers have to scale a mountain of energy information to find useful, reliable and trusted sources that suit their needs

Icon

Consumers want to receive one simple, actionable message at a time

Icon

Consumers are more likely to act on information if there is a clear cost-benefit for them

Through desktop research, surveys, and focus groups, we asked consumers about where they go to find information - and who they would trust to give them good information. We also explored the barriers consumers face to receiving trustworthy, reliable information, the messaging that would spur them to take action, and examined successful bill reduction campaigns around the world.
